FICLosCabos 2025 Pays Tribute to Eugenio Caballero and Goes #BeyondTheScreen

Puerto Los Cabos, Baja California Sur – The Los Cabos International Film Festival (FICLosCabos) is officially in countdown mode for its 13th edition, taking place December 10 through 14, 2025 in Puerto Los Cabos, featuring a multidisciplinary experience that expands beyond traditional cinema under the theme #BeyondTheScreen.

In an interview, Paola Desentis, Festival Director, confirmed that this year’s program will open new creative pathways into music, digital art, animation, and gastronomy—fields she considers key to driving regional economic, social, and cultural transformation.

“This edition aims to raise awareness about the biodiversity of the Gulf of California (Sea of Cortez) and environmental preservation, weaving this narrative throughout the festival,” Desentis stated.

Key Partners & Festival Impact

Desentis highlighted Cinemex, the festival’s main partner for over a decade, as a cornerstone in the event’s consolidation as a global benchmark for independent film, as well as a major platform for cultural dialogue and international talent attraction.

Special Tribute & Masterclass

A major festival spotlight will be the official tribute to Eugenio Caballero, Mexican production designer:

  • Oscar Winner for Best Art Direction (Pan’s Labyrinth, 2007)

  • Academy Award Nominee (Roma, 2019)

Caballero will host an exclusive masterclass exploring:

  • His creative methodology

  • The future of film in the age of artificial intelligence

  • Artistic storytelling as a total narrative experience

Emerging Filmmakers Panel

FICLosCabos will also feature a discussion panel with rising Mexican filmmakers, including:

  • Gerardo Coello

  • Adolfo Margulis

  • Ximena Lamadrid

Moderated by David Zonana, director of Heroico.

Notable Screenings

A highlighted screening includes Depeche Mode: M by Fernando Frías (I’m No Longer Here), described as a hybrid cinematic piece blending British music, existential perspectives on life and death, and cultural reflections rooted in Mexico.

Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund & Animation Expansion

The festival will reinforce project selection for the Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund, in strategic partnership with ESCINE, continuing support for up to five post-production features, with a historical total of more than 43 million pesos in in-kind production support.

For the first time ever, animation joins the official FICLosCabos lineup, curated by ESCINE, along with the announcement of the Official Animation Call for Entries 2026, positioning Los Cabos as an emerging creative hub for the global animation industry.

Ticket Presale & Expected Attendance

The 13th edition expects around 1,000 attendees, with a curated, niche audience blend of local and international film enthusiasts.

Tickets have been in special-price presale since November 4, and are now available through the festival’s official platforms.
